Ottawa Mayoral Candidate Alex Lawson Pledges More Police Patrols Across the City

Election 2026 | Campaign proposal

Ottawa mayoral candidate Alex Lawson’s campaign proposes increasing the minimum number of active police patrol vehicles from 42 to 64, with further changes tied to population growth.

The campaign also promises coverage across policing zones, including suburban and rural communities, and says it would seek provincial and federal support for policing costs associated with the national capital.

These are campaign commitments, rather than approved police deployments or funded City decisions. Voters can assess the proposal by asking how staffing, operating costs, implementation and service outcomes would be measured.

Correction — October 25, 2026: Removed an unsupported figure of approximately 290 additional officers, an unverified announcement date and unsourced comparisons with other candidates. The original publication date is unchanged.
