Six Seconds Left: REDBLACKS End Losing Streak in TD Place Thriller

With 30 seconds remaining, another painful ending appeared possible. Instead, rookie quarterback Bryson Barnes delivered a finish Ottawa football supporters had waited more than a year to celebrate.

The REDBLACKS defeated the Toronto Argonauts 40-39 at TD Place on October 16, ending a 22-game losing streak and securing their first victory of the 2026 season. The win came after 406 days without a victory, according to The Canadian Press.

Making his first professional start, Barnes completed 27 of 37 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed 62 rushing yards, giving Ottawa an additional threat when plays broke down.

Toronto had moved ahead 39-33 with half a minute left. Barnes responded by leading Ottawa downfield, finding Ayden Eberhardt for a 24-yard touchdown with six seconds remaining. Paul Geelen’s conversion supplied the decisive point.

Eberhardt finished with nine catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Daniel Adeboboye added two rushing touchdowns against his former team, helping Ottawa build an early advantage before Toronto’s late comeback.

One victory could not erase the frustration of the season. It did, however, give supporters a memorable example of what persistence can produce.

For Barnes, the evening was an impressive introduction as a starting quarterback. For Ottawa, it was finally a chance to celebrate a result that had seemed to keep slipping away.
