IRCC’s new Haiti measures took effect October 28, following an October 27 announcement. Ottawa residents holding a valid work permit issued under earlier Haiti policies may qualify for one renewal; the broader fee-exempt measures have ended.

Applicants must be in Canada with valid temporary resident status when applying and when a decision is made, meet work-permit requirements, and not have received a renewal under this new measure. Eligible foreign-national family members covered by the earlier Haiti policies are included.

The application deadline is December 30, 2027; this does not extend an existing permit. Approved renewals could last up to three years, limited by passport and biometrics validity. Fees are $155 for processing plus $100 for an open work permit, with biometrics fees where required.

Visitors, students and temporary resident permit holders must use regular extension processes; these measures no longer let them switch permit types. Applicants should follow IRCC’s secure-account instructions and document checklist. Renewal requires an application and IRCC approval.
