Sudanese nationals in Ottawa with work permits issued under earlier crisis-response policies can check new renewal rules effective October 28. IRCC announced the targeted extension October 27, replacing the broader fee-exempt measures.

The current instructions cover holders of valid permits issued under the listed Sudan policies, including eligible foreign-national family members who fled the conflict. Applicants must be in Canada with valid temporary status when applying and when a decision is made, meet general work-permit requirements, and not have received a renewal under this new measure.

Applications are due by December 30, 2027. That deadline does not extend existing permits. Approved renewals could be valid for up to three years, subject to passport and biometrics expiry. Applicants pay $155 processing and $100 open-work-permit fees, plus biometrics fees if required.

Visitors, study permit holders and temporary resident permit holders must follow regular extension processes; the special measures no longer allow switching permit types. Review IRCC’s secure-account checklist before applying. Renewal is not guaranteed.
