Ottawa firefighters rescued a resident from a smoke-filled townhome on Heatherington Road while containing a fire in the basement, according to Ottawa Fire Services.

In its public update, the service said crews prevented the flames from spreading to the upper floors or adjoining homes.

The response combined a rescue inside the residence with efforts to limit the fire’s spread through the property.

Details about the resident’s condition, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage have not been independently verified by Eye on Ottawa.
