Atlético Ottawa Turns Toward Forge After Regular-Season Setback
Atlético Ottawa’s regular season ended with a defeat, but its biggest opportunity remains ahead.
Ottawa fell 2-1 to Inter Toronto at York Lions Stadium on Sunday, October 25. Already assured of third place, Atlético now turns its attention to a two-legged Canadian Premier League playoff semifinal against second-place Forge FC.
Inter Toronto, whose playoff hopes had already ended, approached the finale with several young players involved. The home side nevertheless controlled important stretches and outshot Ottawa seven to four in the opening half.
Ariel Almagro opened the scoring in the 36th minute. Julian Altobelli doubled Toronto’s advantage in the 90th minute with a strike from outside the penalty area, leaving Ottawa facing a difficult late recovery.
Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau converted a penalty deep into stoppage time, taking his regular-season total to seven goals. The finish reduced the deficit but arrived too late to rescue a point.
The result gives Atlético a clear reason to reset before the postseason. Ottawa is scheduled to host the opening leg against Forge the following Sunday, bringing playoff football back to the capital.
For supporters, the focus now shifts from the disappointment of one afternoon to the possibilities of a new contest. The regular-season table has settled the matchup. What happens next will depend on how Atlético responds when the stakes rise.
